Stegosaurus was a giant dinosaur that lived in the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous. It was a herbivorous animal. It had huge bone plates on its back and dangerous tails with several sharp spines to defend it from predators.
Most of the information about Stegosaurus came from mature individuals, and it was not until relatively recent years that some young Stegosaurus fossils were discovered. Wyoming, USA, found a specimen of a semi-mature individual in 1994, with a head and tail length of 4.6 meters and a height of 2 meters, and an estimated body weight of 2.3 metric tons when alive. The specimen is currently in the University of Wyoming Geological Museum [7]. A smaller specimen, 2.1 metres long and 0.8 metres high on the back, is on display at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
The forelimbs of the stegosaurus were very short compared with the hind limbs, and the lower half of the fibula and tibia was shorter than the femur. This shows that they can't walk very fast, because the feet of the hind limbs are limited by the forelimbs, and the fastest is about 6 to 7 kilometers per hour.
